What Is It? Novaform and Sleep Innovations (both made by Sleep Innovations) are entry- to mid-level memory foam mattresses that are made in the USA. Models use 3 inches or less of low-density (3 lbs/ft) memory foam along with base foam and possibly an additional foam layer. See memory foam density: higher vs lower to learn about the characteristics of low-density memory foam.
Sleep Innovations vs Novaform: Novaform tends to be the more expensive, mid-level brand, while Sleep Innovations is the less expensive, entry-level brand. However, the Sleep Innovations Sure Temp 12-inch mattress is essentially the same product as the Novaform Pure Comfort.
Competition: Refer to the mattress comparison or the memory foam mattress reviews – summary to see how the beds compare to competing brands.
Where To Buy? Novaform models are sold at Costco.com, and Sleep Innovations models at Amazon.com. See buying a mattress online: what you should know.
Sleep Innovations / Novaform Mattress Ratings
The ratings below are based on over 660 consumer reviews of various Novaform / Sleep Innovations mattresses including Pure Comfort, Deluxe Comfort, Serafina, Roma Sera, Gel, Sure Temp and discontinued models. The data was gathered using an unbiased, accurate methodology.
| Owner satisfaction | b- | Novaform / Sleep Innovations mattresses overall have 78% owner satisfaction. This is slightly lower than the owner satisfaction of memory foam mattresses overall (81%). All Novaform / Sleep Innovations models tend to rate similarly. Models, however, that have 3 inches of memory foam (as opposed to 2.5 inches) and / or an additional foam comfort layer (as opposed to just the foam base) tend to rate highest. |
| Durability / longevity | C+ | Owner experience data suggests that the lifespan of Novaform / Sleep Innovations is likely no better than fair. Consumers should not expect more than a six-year lifespan on average. In addition, at least 14% of owners complain of significant sagging and / or excessive softening and loss of support within three years of purchase. This percent is slightly higher than what is reported for similarly priced memory foam bed brands. |
| Price | b | Price is $550-$950 for a Novaform queen depending on model. Price is $280-$400 for a Sleep Innovations queen depending on thickness. |
| Less pain | b | The beds are praised mainly for their comfort and pain-relieving ability. However, at least 10% of owners report that their mattress causes pain, usually because of excessive firmness. (See mattresses and pain relief for analysis.) |
| Firmness variety | D+ | Different models offer somewhat different firmness levels. However, 75% of consumers report that their Novaform / Sleep Innovations bed is medium to firm regardless of the model. The rest say it is soft or excessively soft. |
| Contours to body | C+ | The foam used is minimally weight and temperature sensitive resulting in fairly limited contouring and molding to the body. As a result, the mattress has a more conventional feel to it than more expensive memory foam mattresses such as Tempurpedic. |
| Easy to move on | B | Owners tend to say that they do not sink far into the bed. As a result, the mattress is usually easy to toss / turn on and get up off. |
| Motion isolation | b+ | Motion isolation is a top strength of memory foam mattresses. They are two-person friendly because motion stays isolated. |
| No initial odor / off gassing | C- | There is randomness in regard to whether, how strongly and for how long Novaform / Sleep Innovations will give off an initial smell or gas. About 15% of owners report a significant problem which is about average compared to memory foam beds in general. (See memory foam off gassing for more information.) |
| No sleeping hot | C | About 5% of consumers report that heat build up can be a problem which is about average for a memory foam bed. |
| Good for sex | B- | Memory foam bed owners are generally split regarding their opinions on this matter. (See mattresses and sex for analysis). |
| No noise | A- | The mattress is quiet when lied on or compressed. |
| Dust mite resistant | C+ | Memory foam beds, including Novaform / Sleep Innovations, are dust mite resistant, not dust-mite proof. See mattresses and dust mites. |
| No rotating / flipping | B- | Only one side of the mattress is meant for sleeping. Nevertheless, some owners report flipping the mattress and sleeping on the other side anyway if the bed is sagging / softening or is excessively firm. |
| Lightweight | C+ | The weight of the bed is about average for a memory foam mattress. But it is lighter and easier to move / handle than more expensive brands, such as Tempurpedic. |
| Warranty | B | Novaform / Sleep Innovations has a 20-year limited warranty which is above average compared to other beds in the price range. Some owners, however, report that the warranty fails to provide meaningful coverage. (See mattress warranties: what you should know.) |
| Return policy | B+ | Costco offers a 90-day or more window for returns, while Amazon has a 30-day money back policy. (See returning a mattress: what you should know.) |
| Customer service | C+ | Consumer opinions are generally split on the issue of Sleep Innovations customer service. |
