What You Need To Know

THE GOOD: Sleep Innovations / Novaform mattresses offer above average pain-relief potential and motion isolation. Prices tend to be affordable.

THE BAD: Like nearly all memory foam mattresses, they can have a strong initial odor. And although there are several models, firmness variety is fairly limited.

THE MATTRESSES: Sleep Innovations and Novaform (both made by Sleep Innovations) are entry- to mid-level USA-made memory foam mattresses. Models use 2.5 to 3 inches of low-density (3 or 3.5 lbs/ft) memory foam with base foam and possibly an additional foam support layer. Sleep Innovations / Novaform Ratings: Overall as a Group

The ratings below are based on over 1,450 consumer reviews of various Sleep Innovations / Novaform mattresses including Sure Temp, Pure Comfort, Deluxe Comfort, Serafina, Gel and similar discontinued models.

Owner satisfaction	b-	Sleep Innovations / Novaform mattresses have 79% owner satisfaction (79 out of 100 based on 1289 reviews). This is slightly lower than the owner satisfaction of memory foam mattresses overall (81%). The various Sleep Innovations / Novaform models tend to rate similar to one another.
Durability / longevity	c+	Owner experience data suggests that the lifespan of the beds overall is likely no better than fair. However, the more expensive models likely have at least somewhat better durability and longevity than the less expensive models. Consumers should not expect more than a seven-year lifespan on average. In addition, at least 14% of owners complain of significant sagging and / or excessive softening and loss of support within three years of purchase. This percent is slightly higher than what is reported for similarly priced memory foam bed brands.
Price / affordability	b+	Prices range from $260-$1100 depending on model and size.
Less pain	b	The beds are praised mainly for their comfort and pain-relieving ability. However, at least 15% of owners report that their mattress causes pain, usually because of excessive firmness. (See mattresses and pain relief for analysis.)
Firmness variety	D+	Different models offer somewhat different firmness (see below). However, 75% of owners report that their bed is medium to firm regardless of model. The rest say it is soft or excessively soft.
Contours to body	b-	The foam used is minimally to moderately weight and temperature sensitive which usually results in fairly limited contouring and molding to the body. As a result, the mattresses have a more conventional feel to them than more expensive memory foam mattresses such as certain high-density Tempur-Pedic models.
Easy to move on	B-	Owners tend to say that they do not sink far into the bed. As a result, the mattress is usually easy to toss / turn on and get up off.
Motion isolation	a-	Motion isolation is a strength of memory foam beds. A person can move or get up off the bed with minimal disturbance to partner.
No initial odor / off gassing	d+	There is randomness in regard to whether, how strongly and for how long Novaform / Sleep Innovations beds will give off an initial smell or gas. About 15% of owners report a significant problem. (See memory foam off gassing for general information.)
No sleeping hot	C	About 5% of consumers report that heat build up can be a problem which is about average for a memory foam bed. Novaform models with gel-infused memory foam have somewhat few heat-related complaints.

No noise	A	The mattress is quiet when lied on or compressed.
Expands fully and evenly	c	Sleep Innovations / Novaform mattresses come vacuum sealed and compressed. About 7% of owners report that their mattress does not fully decompress which can cause uneven support, discomfort and an uneven appearance.
No rotating / flipping	B-	Only one side of the mattress is meant for sleeping. Nevertheless, some owners report flipping the mattress and sleeping on the other side if the bed is sagging / softening or is uncomfortable.
Lightweight	C-	Weight is about average for a foam mattress; they can be difficult to move and handle especially for one person.

Sleep Innovations vs Novaform

Novaform tends to be the more expensive, mid-level brand, while Sleep Innovations is the less expensive, entry-level brand. However, the Sleep Innovations Sure Temp 12-inch mattress is essentially the same product as the Novaform Pure Comfort.

Remember

– The different Novaform / Sleep Innovations mattress models offer somewhat different firmness levels. However, three-fourths of owners say their mattress is medium to firm regardless of the model. The remaining 25% say their bed is soft or excessively soft.

– At least 15 percent of owners say their Novaform / Sleep Innovations mattress had a significant off gassing odor when new. This is somewhat above average for a low-density foam mattress.
