The Ecotones plays 12 "SoundStories": Seaside, Waves, Brook, Rain, Thunderstorm, Meadow, Fireplace, Campfire, Fan, and more.
The product uses 18-bit digital audio which is higher quality than CD audio. The result in terms of sound quality and realism are impressive, better than any other sound machines that plays nature sounds. In addition, there's no annoying and distracting repetition in the sounds. The Ecotones can run continuously or works on a timer that can go up to 120 minutes. It also features a headphone jack.
The Ecotones can detect background noise and then dynamically change its SoundStory to mask it. For example, if a police car drives by with sirens blaring, the Ecotones detects this noise and adapts its sound to drown out the sirens. It does this, however, in a natural and gradual manner.
By setting the product in a different mode, it works in reverse in that its sounds will dim when a conversation takes place. It also features a manual mode that provides consistent sound at a user-set volume level.
In regard to product durability and longevity, its quality of construction is impressive and should provide at least a few years of service with reasonable care.
The product is not particularly travel friendly. It's size (5.5 x 6.1 x 7.5 inches) and weight (3 pounds) are greater than most other sound machines. It cannot run on batteries.
