What Is an Orthopedic Dog Bed?
Orthopedic dog beds are often designed for older, larger dogs, including those with arthritis. The extra padding they provide (compared to conventional basic dog beds) improves the comfort for the pet. And their taller height makes it easier for the pet to get on and get up off, easing stress on joints. Orthopedic pet beds are usually filled with foam, sometimes memory foam.

Satisfaction
While the vast majority of owners are satisfied with their orthopedic dog bed, those who were not satisfied said the product was too small for their dog, not durable enough (gets chewed, torn), too bulky, does not get used, and or easily attracts dirt and fur.
Durability
Owners indicate that orthopedic dog beds tend to have as good of durability / longevity as any pet bed. Nevertheless, an aggressive or moderate chewer can still destroy the product quickly.
Average price paid
Most owners paid less than $100, but $150+ beds are not uncommon. The larger and or thicker the bed is, the more expensive it generally will be.
Value
Given the generally good comfort and durability, owners find the product to be a solid value even though they are fairly pricey.
Dog size
The clear majority of orthopedic dog bed owners have dogs that are considered large. Medium to small dogs generally do not need the padding that the beds provide.
Easy to clean
The products do well on this issue since they usually have a removable cover that can be machine washed and dried.
Padding
Orthopedic-type dog beds often have as much and likely more padding than any other type. This amount of padding, however, means that the beds are more likely to noticeably sag over time than beds without substantial padding.
Appearance
They often are available in a wide variety of colors and designs.
Indoor / outdoor
They are mostly for indoor use, but models for outdoors are sometimes available.
Travel friendly
Their size and weight make them impractical for travel.
Lightweight
They are often heavier and more difficult to move than other pet beds.
