What Is It? Spa Sensations (made by Zinus / imported from China) is an entry-level memory foam mattress. Like other beds in its price range, about 20% of owners buy the mattress for only occasional / temporary use. It has a polyurethane foam core and 3 inches or less of low-density 3 lbs-ft memory foam. See memory foam density: higher vs lower to learn about the characteristics of low-density memory foam.

Spa Sensations Mattress Ratings

The Spa Sensations / Theratouch memory foam mattress report below is based on at least 1,100 consumer reviews of 6-, 8- and 12-inch thick models. The data was collected using an unbiased, accurate methodology.

Owner satisfaction B The Spa Sensations Theratouch mattress has owner satisfaction (82%) that is similar to most other memory foam mattresses. The 8-inch and 12-inch models rate somewhat higher than the 6-inch model. Owners who use the bed only occasionally / temporarily rate the bed somewhat higher than those use it on a permanent and regular basis.
Durability / longevity C- Durability and longevity, owner experience data shows, is fair. Spa Sensations has about a 4-year lifespan on average with regular use. At least 15% of owners report a lifespan of less than three years. Spa Sensation's lifespan is at best half that of pricier memory foam mattresses, namely Tempurpedic. As the Spa Sensations bed ages and wears, it will sag and lose conformability and "memory." This may result in substantially reduced support and comfort.
Price A The mattress is priced $180-$360 for a queen depending on thickness. Spa Sensations is the most affordable memory foam bed included in our research.
Less pain B Spa Sensations is generally effective at pain reduction, including back pain relief. But it probably is not as effective at pain relief as more dense and expensive memory foam mattress brands. (See mattresses and pain relief for analysis.)
Firmness variety D One firmness is offered. The clear majority of owners who say they are not satisfied with the mattress say so because they find the bed to be too firm. Thicker models tend to be somewhat less firm than thinner ones. A significant number of owners who have bought more than one Spa Sensations mattress report that each mattress is different from the other in its firmness or "feel." To be fair, however, this inconsistency problem tends to be true of all memory foam products.
Contours to body C+ Spa Sensations' 3 lbs-ft memory foam is only minimally weight- and temperature-sensitive resulting in fairly limited contouring and molding to the body.
Easy to move on B Owners report that they do not sink far into the bed's 3 lbs-ft memory foam. The mattress, as a result, tends to require little effort to move on and get up off.
Motion isolation B Motion isolation is an advantage for memory foam mattresses. A bed with good motion isolation is couple friendly in that it keeps movement made by one person isolated so that it does not travel across the bed to disturb another person.
No initial odor / off gassing C+ "Off gassing" can release a chemical smell when the bed is new. There is variability in regard to whether, how strongly and for how long Spa Sensations mattresses will off gas. Compared to other memory foam beds, Spa Sensations off gasses slightly less than average. (See memory foam off gassing for more analysis.)
No sleeping hot B There are few complaints regarding Spa Sensations acting as a heat trap.
Good for sex C+ Memory foam bed owners often have a difference of opinion on this issue. (See mattresses and sex for analysis).
No noise A- The mattress itself does not make noise, but the foundation or frame may.
Dust mite resistant C+ All types of mattresses can attract dust mites, but memory foam beds, including Spa Sensations, may attract less. Refer to mattresses and dust mites for more info.
No rotating / flipping B- The mattress is one-sided. Rotating the bed may be needed occasionally to avoid sagging and uneven wear.
Lightweight B- The bed is somewhat lighter than many other memory foam brands, such as Tempurpedic.
Warranty D Although the mattress is stated to come with a 5-year warranty, some owners report that it is difficult to successfully file a warranty claim with the company.
Return policy B Spa Sensations has a 90-day return policy when purchased at Wal-Mart. To return the mattress, it will need to be shipped back to a Wal-Mart distribution center or returned to a Wal-Mart store. (See returning a mattress: what you should know.)
Better Business Bureau (BBB) rating A+ Zinus is the manufacturer of Spa Sensations mattresses. Zinus has an "A+" rating with the BBB, but in the recent past it had an "F" mainly for product quality / warranty issues. The company has had seven complaints filed against it in the past three years.
