Updated January 15, 2012

What You Need To Know

Owner Satisfaction: Based on 45 consumer experiences, Serta iComfort has 80% owner satisfaction.

Pros: 25-year warranty; 120-day trial; firmness variety; may sleep somewhat cooler than memory foam beds in general; motion isolation.

Cons: Limited track record due to newness of model; off gassing / initial odor potential; heavy.

Price (queen): $1100-$2400 depending on model (Revolution, Insight, Prodigy, Genius).

What Is It?: The Serta iComfort is a mid-level memory foam mattress. The models Genius and Insight use medium-to-low density foam, while the more expensive Prodigy and Revolution models use a combination of high and medium-to-low density foam. Learn what this means in terms of mattress characteristics: Memory Foam Density Comparison.

Competition: Tempurpedic Cloud, Simmons Comforpedic and Sealy Embody are likely the main competition as well as several less-well-known brands. See how iComfort compares to the competition in the Memory Foam Mattress Reviews – Summary and the iComfort vs Tempurpedic comparison.

Serta iComfort Mattress Ratings

The ratings below are based on 45 iComfort consumer reviews and experiences. The data was gathered using an unbiased, accurate methodology.

Owner satisfaction B 80% of Serta iComfort mattress owners are satisfied with the product. This percent is similar to that of memory foam beds overall (81%). Competitor mattresses, however, rate somewhat higher: Tempurpedic Cloud (86%) and Simmons Comforpedic (91%).
iComfort chart
Durability / longevity B Owner experience data regarding the bed's longevity / life span is extremely limited because the mattress is a new model. Based on its strong warranty, however, we expect it to have above-average durability.
Price B- Prices range from $1100-$2400 for a queen depending on model. More expensive models are pricier because they tend to be thicker. Given its features and warranty, owners generally regard the bed to be an above-average value.
Less pain B While there are reports from consumers of increased pain since sleeping on the iComfort, the clear majority of owners report good comfort and pain relief, including back pain relief. (See mattresses and pain relief for more analysis.)
Firmness variety b The different iComfort models have fairly different firmness levels. The Revolution and Prodigy, say owners, are softer than the Insight and Genius.
Motion isolation A- Motion isolation tends to be a strength for memory foam mattresses in general. A bed with good motion isolation isolates movement of one person so that another person is not much disturbed.
Easy to move on B- The Insight and Genius models, say owners, are fairly easy to move on, but the Revolution and Prodigy models with their higher density foam offer more resistance to movement, including tossing and turning.
No initial odor / off gassing c "Off gassing" is the giving off of a chemical-like odor when the mattress is new. At least 8% of owners complain of a moderate-to-strong initial odor, especially with the Revolution and Prodigy. (See memory foam off gassing for more analysis.)
No sleeping hot C- 8% of the consumers included in our research report that the iComfort acts as a heat trap, especially the Revolution and Prodigy models. This percent is slightly lower than Tempurpedic and memory foam mattresses overall. (See memory foam heat retention for analysis.)
No noise A- The mattress is silent under all conditions.
Dust mite resistant c+ All mattress types can be home to large dust mite populations, but memory foam beds, including iComfort, may be home to fewer. See mattresses and dust mites.
No turning / flipping B The iComfort, like most memory foam beds, is a one-sided design which means it cannot be flipped. As the mattress ages and wears, it may need to be turned (heat to foot) to combat excessive softening or sagging.
Lightweight D+ Heavy weight is a complaint for memory foam mattresses in general. The thicker, higher density and more expensive iComfort models are especially heavy and difficult to move, transport and maneuver.
Warranty a The warranty is 25 years with the first 15 years non-prorated. This coverage is superior to what most mattresses provide, memory foam or other. (See mattress warranties: what you should know.)
Return policy b+ 120-day trial. Must keep bed for at least 30 days. Details depend on individual retailer. (See returning a mattress: what you should know.)
Better Business Bureau (BBB) rating b- Serta currently has a "B-" rating. Their rating tends to fluctuate significantly. There have been 118 complaints filed over the past three years for Serta products, mainly for product quality and warranty issues related to innerspring mattresses.
