Is memory foam Dust Mite Resistant?

Some owners included in our research say they have experienced fewer dust mite-related allergies since they began sleeping on their memory foam mattress.

These owners often believe that this is the result of memory foam being dust mite resistant.

While it is true that dust mites do not eat the foam itself, they can still likely live inside the mattress in large numbers.

Advantages of Memory Foam Mattresses → Based on Data From Over 5,600 Actual Owners

Page last updated June 6, 2011

Less Pain / More Comfortable

At least 15% of owners say that their memory foam mattress, especially if it has higher density foam, relieves pain, such as back, hip and shoulder pain.

This pain relief is likely due to the weight and temperature sensitivity of memory foam. Owners say that they have less pain when lying on the bed because of even support and a lack of significant pressure points.

About 5% of owners also report less pain when out of bed. In other words, owners with back pain sometimes say that they experience less pain during the day since they began sleeping on their memory foam bed.

Little Motion Transfer

Motion transfer has to do with how the mattress localizes or absorbs motion. In other words, a bed that has little or no motion transfer is considered "couple friendly" because it absorbs the movement of one person on the bed so that the other person is not disturbed.

The data shows that memory foam beds have the least amount of motion transfer compared to other types of beds. Almost no memory foam mattress owner included in our research complained about excessive motion transfer.

Durability / Longevity

When compared mainly to innerspring mattresses, memory foam beds – even many of the least expensive brands – often perform well. In fact, our research indicates that memory foam beds as a group are at least 50% less likely to develop premature sagging than are innerspring beds as a group.

Value

Memory foam bed owners generally appreciate how far their dollar goes with their purchase. Even owners of the pricey Tempurpedic® mattress often say that buying one was money well spent. In fact, it's not uncommon for owners to say that buying a memory foam bed was one of the best purchases they have ever made.

This satisfaction is fueled by the fact that people as a group find the beds to be comfortable, pain relieving and reasonably durable and long lasting. In addition, the fact that many memory foam mattresses often have a similar if not lower price than other mattress types also helps owners to regard their bed as a value.

No Noise

Unlike many other bed types that can make noise for a variety of reasons, memory foam mattresses are silent under all conditions. This can allow for better, undisturbed sleep. A small number of memory foam bed owners, however, report that their foundation makes some noise.
