Simmons Beautyrest NxG Ratings Report

The report below is based on over 40 Beautyrest NxG consumer reviews including reviews of models 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 and 600. Learn more about our accurate and unbiased research methodology and sources.

Owner satisfaction c+ Based on a somewhat small sample size of 43 owners, the NxG has 74% owner satisfaction. This rate is better than other Beautyrest models including Classic, Elite and World Class. The Nxg rates in between innerspring mattresses as a group (61% satisfaction) and memory foam mattresses as group (81% satisfaction). This makes sense given that the Nxg is a hybrid of these two types. Owner experience data for specific Nxg models (100, 200, etc.) is very limited, but what data is available shows them to have similar satisfaction rates.

Durability / longevity B- Significant long-term owner experience data regarding the life span of the Beautyrest NxG is limited. But from the data available, the bed tends to have durability / longevity similar to memory foam mattresses as opposed to innerspring mattresses. This is a good thing given that innerspring beds tend to perform poorly in this area. 15% of NxG owners included in our research report durability / longevity problems, mainly premature sagging which is compression of the mattress that takes place within three years of ownership and undermines comfort and or support.
Price D+ Prices range from $1,500 to $3,500 for a queen. This makes the the mattress at least somewhat pricey compared to mattresses overall.
Less pain B- Lessened back, hip and shoulder discomfort is an overall strength of the bed. However, about 15% of owners report that the bed causes pain for various reasons. (See mattresses and pain relief for general analysis.)
Easy to move on B The NxG uses no higher than medium-density memory foam which means there is only limited sinking into the mattress for the sleeper. As a result, owners say there is little resistance to movement when tossing, turning and getting up off of the bed.
Firmness variety A- The bed comes in a variety of firmness levels.
Motion isolation A All Beautyrest models including the NxG use pocketed coils. These, say owners, are effective in absorbing movement from one person so that another person on the bed does not notice it. Owner review data suggests that motion isolation is an advantage that the Beautyrest has over much of its innerspring bed competition, including Sealy and Serta.
No initial odor / off gassing B- Less than 4% of owners report significant off gassing / initial odor.
No sleeping hot C- About 14% of owners report a heat trap problem. This is above average for an innerspring bed but only slightly above average for a memory foam bed.
Good for sex B- See mattresses and sex for analysis of this issue.
No noise C+ There are some reports of the innerspring coils clunking, creaking and popping.
Dust mite resistant B- Memory foam is dust mite resistant but not dust mite proof. See mattresses and dust mites.
No turning / rotating B- Beautyrests have a one-sided design which means that only one side is usable. Consumers report the need to rotate their bed on occasion to prevent and minimize sagging / body impressions. Given the weight of the NxG, performing this rotation may require more than one person.
Lightweight D+ All NxG models tend to have at least somewhat above-average weight. Thicker models tend to weigh the most and are, as a result, harder to move / transport.
Warranty B The warranty is 20-years with the first 10 years non prorated. Most other Simmons Beautyrest models have only 10-year warranties. (See mattress warranties: what you should know.)
Return policies C Most sellers accept returns for 20-90 days. They often will only provide an exchange for another mattress of equal or less value, not a refund. (See returning a mattress: what you should know.)
Customer service C+ Most complaints for Simmons customer service have to do with what is regarded by owners as a lack of help and resolution regarding warranty claims.
Better Business Bureau (BBB) ratings c Simmons has a "C" rating with the Better Business Bureau. Its rating tends to fluctuate often showing a lack of rating stability.
Number of BBB complaints C+ Simmons has had 156 complaints filed against it in the past three years. This number is about average for a major mattress manufacturer.

Remember

– The Simmons Beautyrest NxG tends to be effective in isolating motion. Its use of pocketed coils and a memory foam comfort layer absorb movement made by one person so that another person on the bed is not disturbed much if at all by the movement.

– About 15 percent of owners report that their Simmons NxG retains heat to an extent that it makes the mattress uncomfortable to sleep on, especially during summer months. This percent is somewhat higher than average for a mattress with substantial amounts of memory foam.
