Mattress Ratings > Sealy Embody Reviews
Review & Ratings Based on 22 Owner Experiences
April 2012 Notice: While the Sealy Embody may still be available at many retailers, it has been replaced in the Sealy lineup by the Sealy Optimum. Due to the fact that the Optimum is a new mattress, we will likely not have ratings (based on significant owner experience data) available for it for at least six months.
Ratings for Sealy Embody Latex
Ratings for Sealy Embody Memory Foam
Owner Satisfaction: Based on 12 owner experiences, Sealy Embody latex mattresses have 82% owner satisfaction.
Pros: Supportive; pain-relief potential; fairly easy to move on.
Cons: Too firm for some; heat trap potential; limited owner experience data available at this time.
Price: $1,800-$3,000 depending on model (Shelter, Perspective, Meditation, Insightful).
Main Competition: See latex mattress reviews - summary for how the bed compares to other latex mattresses.
Materials Used: The core is non-latex foam. The latex comfort layer is blended, meaning it is a mixture of synthetic and natural latex. The processing method appears to be dunlop as opposed to talalay.
The ratings below are based on at least 12 owner / consumer reviews and experiences that were collected using an unbiased, accurate methodology.
| Owner satisfaction | B | Based on limited owner feedback, the Sealy Embody latex bed has 82% owner satisfaction which is similar to both latex mattresses overall (78%) and Embody memory foam mattresses (80%). |
| Durability / longevity | B | The Embody is a fairly new mattress and, as a result, data on longevity is very limited. So far, however, there are few if any reports of premature sagging and or body impression development. |
| Price | C | The price ($1,800-$3,000) is competitive with other mattresses that contain substantial amounts of latex, but its cost is more than the average price of a mattress. |
| Less pain | B- | The bed is generally effective in the relief of pain, including back pain. However, 16% of owners complain of excessive firmness and the discomfort it causes. (See mattresses and pain relief for analysis.) |
| Easy to move on | B+ | There are no complaints regarding the mattress being difficult to move on / toss, turn. |
| Firmness variety | C | The Embody latex bed is offered in medium and firm. It is likely not suitable for those seeking a soft mattress. |
| Motion isolation | B | Latex mattresses in general tend to be fairly effective at keeping movement made from one person on the bed from disturbing the other person. |
| No initial odor / off gassing | B+ | Unlike the Embody memory foam mattress, there are few if any complaints on this issue for the Embody latex bed. |
| No sleeping hot | c- | Heat retention is a significant complaint. At least 11% of owners say that the bed can trap body heat resulting in an uncomfortably warm sleep surface. |
| No noise | A | Latex mattresses are silent under all conditions. |
| No turning / flipping needed | B | The Embody like most mattresses today is "no flip." The mattress may need to be turned on occasion, however, to prevent wear or body impression development. |
| Lightweight | D | Latex foam mattresses tend to be heavy and the Embody is no exception. The mattress will be difficult to transport and move in any way. |
| Warranty | a- | The warranty is 20 years with the first 10 years non-prorated. This is similar to most other latex mattresses in this price range. See mattress warranties: what you should know. |
| Better Business Bureau (BBB) ratings | A+ | Sealy has an "A+" rating with the BBB. It has had 232 complaints in the past three years. Most of these complaints appear to be in relation to problems with Sealy innerspring mattresses, not latex beds. |
Owner Satisfaction: Based on 10 owner experiences, Sealy Embody memory foam mattresses have 80% owner satisfaction.
Pros: Pain-relief potential; softer than Embody latex beds.
Cons: Its high-density foam can be difficult to move on; initial odor / off gassing potential; limited owner experience data available at this time.
Price Range: $1,800-$3,000 depending on model (Stillness, Prophecy, Motivation, Introspection).
Competition: Tempurpedic and Simmons Comforpedic are likely the main competition. See memory foam mattress reviews - summary for a complete list of competitors and a comparison.
Foam Density: The Embody comfort layers tend to consist mostly of high-density memory foam. Learn what this means in terms of mattress characteristics: memory foam density comparison.
The ratings below are based on at least 10 owner / consumer reviews and experiences that were collected using an unbiased, accurate methodology.
| Owner satisfaction | B | Based on a small sample size (10), the Sealy Embody memory foam mattress has 80% owner satisfaction which is similar to both memory foam mattresses overall (81%) as well as Embody latex beds (82%). |
| Durability / longevity | B | The Embody is a fairly new mattress and, as a result, data on longevity is very limited. So far, however, there are few if any reports of premature sagging and or body impression development. |
| Price | C | The price ($1,800-$3,000) is competitive with other high-density memory foam mattresses, but is well above the average price of a memory foam mattress. |
| Less pain | B+ | Less pain, including less back, shoulder and hip pain, is a strength of memory foam mattresses in general, especially high-density beds such as the Sealy Embody. (See mattresses and pain relief for analysis.) |
| Easy to move on | C- | The high-density foam that makes up a significant portion of the comfort layer will contour fairly strongly to a person's body resulting in at least some resistance to body movement. Owners also report sinking into or "melting" into the mattress somewhat which makes tossing and turning more of a challenge. |
| Firmness variety | C | The Embody is offered in medium and soft. It is likely not suitable for someone seeking a firm mattress. |
| Motion isolation | A- | Memory foam mattresses in general are effective at keeping movement made from one person on the bed from disturbing the other person. |

| No sleeping hot | c | High-density foam mattresses such as the Embody tend to act as a heat trap more so than low-density beds. (See memory foam heat for more analysis.) |
| Good for sex | C+ | Refer to mattresses and sex for analysis. |
| No noise | A- | The mattress itself makes no noise, but the foundation / frame that is used may. |
| No turning / flipping needed | B | The mattress is "no flip." The mattress may need to be turned on occasion to combat wear. |
| Lightweight | D | The Embody is above average in weight compared to mattresses in general and many other memory foam beds. It will be difficult to transport, move and maneuver. |
| Warranty | A- | The warranty is 20 years with the first 10 years non-prorated. This is similar to most other mattresses in this price range. See mattress warranties: what you should know. |
| Better Business Bureau (BBB) ratings | A+ | Sealy has an "A+" rating with the BBB. It has had 232 complaints in the past three years. Most of these complaints appear to be in relation to problems with Sealy innerspring mattresses, not memory foam. |
