Comfort Ratings
Comfort ratings for each mattress in our research was determined
by dividing the number of owners who found the bed comfortable
by the sample size.
Airbeds
Both Sleep Number /
Select Comfort and Comfortaire
have respectable comfort ratings. Owners tend to like the
reduced pressure points they experience on the beds and that
the beds do not have a tendency to sag significantly, thereby
maintaining their comfort over time. In addition, the firmness
of the beds can be adjusted to suit each person's comfort
preference.
Memory foam beds
All of the memory foam mattresses in our research rate well
in regard to comfort. The properties of memory foam tend to
provide an alleviation of pressure points. Their durability
overall is solid, resulting in good mid- to long-term comfort
and support.
Waterbeds
Waterbeds overall have a good comfort rating thanks mainly
to reduced pressure points and durability (assuming punctures
can be avoided) that result in long-term comfort.
Latex beds
The vast majority of owners find the mattresses comfortable.
Latex beds tend to provide the advantages of memory foam but
without many of the disadvantages.
Innerspring / coil mattresses
These mattresses have the lowest comfort ratings. The main
reason for this is sagging of the beds, which tends to undermine
comfort and support. These beds also tend to cause the sleeper
to experience more pressure points than other types of mattresses.
