Comfort Satisfaction Ratings --
Based on Data From Over 8,300 Actual Owners
The "comfort rating" is the percentage of owners who said they
are satisfied with the comfort of their mattress. The rating
is determined by dividing the number of owners who found the
bed comfortable by the sample size.

Air
Both Sleep Number / Select Comfort and Comfortaire have respectable
comfort ratings. Owners tend to like the reduced pressure points
they experience and that the beds do not have a tendency to
sag significantly, thereby maintaining their comfort over time.
In addition, the firmness can be easily adjusted to suit each person's
preference.
Memory foam
Virtually all brands of memory foam mattresses have a comfort rating of around 80%. The properties of foam tend to provide an
alleviation of pressure points. Their durability overall tends
to be fair to good, often resulting in good mid- to long-term comfort and
support.
Water
Waterbeds overall have a good comfort satisfaction rating thanks mainly to
reduced pressure points and durability (assuming punctures can
be avoided).
Latex
The clear majority of owners find latex mattresses to be comfortable.
They tend to provide the advantages of memory foam but without
some of the disadvantages.
Innerspring / coil
These mattresses as a group have the lowest comfort ratings. The main reason
for this is sagging, which tends to undermine comfort and support.
These beds also tend to cause the sleeper to experience more
pressure points than other types of mattresses.
Futons
Futon mattresses as a group have a fair comfort rating. However, the more
expensive varieties tend to provide better comfort. In addition,
innerspring types tend to perform better than foam or cotton/blend
types.
