Dance
Your Way to Better Sleep
Your quality of sleep can very much depend on how much you
exercise your body and brain during the day.
That's because moving your body and using your mind tends to
cause a person to sleep better in order to recuperate from the
physical and mental activity.
With this being the case, dancing has to be considered an
excellent exercise in general and for fostering a good night's
sleep.
On a physical level, most dancing need not be overly harsh
on body. But your feet may take some abuse, especially at
first. Dancing often works many major muscle groups of the
body and can be terrific aerobic exercise.
The mental exercise you get from dancing (ballroom, latin,
swing, concert, etc.) may very well equal the physical exercise.
Most dancing (beyond just messing around) requires much learning
of the steps and repetition to get it right. Possibly better
than any other exercise, you must struggle and concentrate
to become anything beyond mediocre. In other words, you must
use your mind to the fullest at least on some level.
Of course, dancing has some drawbacks that other exercises
don't necessarily have. You need room to practice, a partner
is sometimes needed, and if you take a class you must get
out of the house and go somewhere usually based on someone
else's schedule.
Nevertheless, if you are having trouble sleeping and are not
exercising or are not liking the exercise that you do, look
into dancing.
